March 6, GHCA meeting and webinar
Summer 2025,
No GHCA meetings or webinars until September:
This decision has been made due to a series of unexpected speaker and venue changes in addition to backload of work that needs to be done on several aspects of the GHCA website and planning for ongoing presentations.
Beyond that we need to rebuild and expand our board of directors need for a bigger and better organization.
We also need to develop an outreach division to take advantage of new opportunities to inform a general audience especially in the Christian community. This would include a program of standard presentation to be available for churches in the metropolitan area. It can also include “field trips” to area museums providing cometary on the displays from a Biblical history viewpoint rather than a standard conventional viewpoint that asserts there is not a God or anything supernatural involved in history.
That will also allow us to have a research division that can support the more educated and knowledgeable of us to support and pursue research projects designed to contribute to advancing the state of the art in creation science. There have been several elements of this already going on in the GHCA and people associated with the GHCA but such work needs support, money, and appropriate organization and cooperation among various efforts.
It is one thing to write a few lines of noble intentions like this. However, these good intensions require a huge amount of work to put much of it into actual practice. So, the most productive thing we can do for now is to reduce the monthly administrative workload for a few months to production of a brief GHCA newsletter with recommended resources for the members to review while leaders work on the other issues mentioned above. The result can be a bigger, better and more influential GHCA.
Two things that everyone can do is: pay your annual dues and pray for guidance for GHCA and Its leaders.
Pay our $60/yr dues: Make out your check to GHCA, mail it to GHCA, 12111 Attlee Dr, Houston TX 77077. Or send money to GHCA via Zelle. GHCA’s enrolled name is “Greater Houston Creation Association” our Nickname is “GHCA” and our enrolled email is “ creationnews@comcast.net “.
Pray for the GHCA: Pray that the Lord will inspire more very capable and dedicated leaders to step forward. Pray also that He will inspire us all what to do and prepare the way before us in the doing of every task.
Many thanks to all,
Frank Mayo, President GHCA
March 6, GHCA meeting and webinar
March 6 at 7 pm, GHCA meeting and webinar:
Stress, Strain, and Rheology
What happens when push comes to shove deep in the earth.
Rheology is about how the various characteristics of a material changes when force is applied. An elastic spring changes size or shape as applied force is increased. It snaps back to its normal size when the force is removed. But if too much force is applied the spring will be permanently deformed in size and shape. Water at normal pressure is a solid below 32ºF but liquid above that up to 212ºF and a vapor above that. Changes like solid, liquid, or vapor are “phase changes”. At temperatures and pressures deep inside the Earth’s mantle, rocks there can have more than on solid phase state as well as a liquid state. These phase changes make rheology rather complicated. They also make it difficult to model just what will happen during events like plate subduction. On March 6 we will build an introduction to rheology in geology. This will play a large role in upcoming presentations. It will be a lot more fun when we understand these issues. It is also fun to keep the speakers on their toes while they present. Please join us for this adventure of science and Bible discovery.
