Dear friends of the GHCA,

At the last meeting we started the year with an excellent presentation from Mark Cadwallader showing that basic philosophy has  sHitler-Stalin 69pcterious consequences for society. The astounding amount of war and killing over the last century is in large part a result of the dominate philosophical ideas of the times and the leaders in power. Stalin, Hitler, Mao Tse-tung, and Pol Pot are some of the tyrants that come to mind who were motivated by evolutionary and materialistic ideas and values. BetMayo 51pctween these men estimates approach a hundred million people were killed to ensure their power and ideology.

In sharp contrast to those are Christian men like William Wilberforce who played a major role in ending slavery and Martin Luther King who's nonviolent protest movement did much to bring greater equality in the rights actually experienced among people. With this contrast in view we can begin to understand the power of philosophical ideas and the associated worldviews.

At our next GHCA meeting on February 7th, Tom Peeler will bring  our attention to the three basic questions of philosophy aWiberforce crop 69pctnd examines the answers from both materialistic and Christian perspectives. His title is Three Answers - Redux! The three questions are: What exists? Why? and How can I know? These basic questions guide and influence everything mankind does. They also have a powerful influence on how we think as Christians and creationists.

Materialists generally say that only space, time, matter M L King 72pctand energy exist. They often argue that there is no soul, will, purpose, right, wrong, good, or evil. But Peeler explains that that all knowledge comes through thinking  and those thought processes required things like information, language, a conscious mind and purpose! Physics can't even begin to explain these things. That is the downfall of materialism and the like. In contrast this is a great strength for Christian philosophy.

This is really important material for all Christians and creationists. Most don't know very well how these philosophical principles fit together with their other areas of knowledge. Our education and the public media are saturated with evolutionary ideas and materialism. Do you know how to recognize it when you see it? Do you know how to respond when it challenges your way of life? All of this has a powerful impact on our world, our lives, and Christian apologetics. Peeler's engaging presentation will teach you a lot! Don't miss this one, please join us; you will be glad you did!

Tom Peeler has a M.S. degree in Systems Management,T Peeler 87pct  twenty five years as an officer in the Marine Corps, and many years in civilian businesses and academia. Now retired, Tom is studying apologetics and philosophy with Dr. Norman Geisler at Veritas Evangelical Seminary.

I recently heard Tom give this talk at the Houston chapter of RTB, where our brothers pursue the progressive approach to creation science. This will be an enlightening adventure for all Christians and creationists and our secular friends as well. So invite one and all to join us. There will no doubt be a lively discussion and Q&A session following the presentation.
